Potato Head Suites Review, Seminyak, Bali: Award Winning But No Michelin Key

Potato Head Suites was named among the world’s best hotels of 2025, but it was also curiously absent from the Michelin Guide’s new list of key-rated hotels.

There’s no doubt that this hotel has benefited from a wealth of favourable publicity over the years, but our team was curious to know if the hype would be matched by reality.

So, they went to Potato Head Suites in Seminyak for some time on the Seminyak shoreline, and this is what they learned during their stay there.

Cleanliness and Maintenance

We felt that overall, this resort was clean enough, but there were definite signs of both aging and wear and tear in certain areas that we felt the maintenance teams could have attended to.

It’s the little details that make the difference between good enough and excellent in this categroy and we felt that they were good enough, without being excellent.

Rating:

Sleep Quality

Despite the attached beach club, you can be assured that you will get a good night’s rest in Potato Head as the rooms are nicely soundproof and lightproof.

We also felt that the beds were big and comfortable, with nice linens, pillows and mattresses. We didn’t need to count many sheep to sleep here.

Rating:

Staff Attitude And Service Culture

Overall, the staff are excellent at Potato Head, but we watched a fellow guest run into a major problem to be greeted with ridiculous nonsense, too.

It was regarding the hotel’s refusal to allow Grab or Gojek pick ups (they will dump you further up the street in a shuttle bus if you don’t want to use the overpriced local taxi service) but an exception surely should have been made for a young family like this one.

Rating:

Check-in/Check-out Experience

The check-in and check-out processes are reasonably painless, and while not best-in-class, you won’t spend too much time kicking your heels before you are in your room at Potato Head.

Rating:

Bathroom Quality & Functionality

We thought that the bathrooms were lovely and that they came with some wonderful toiletries. They were certainly big enough and we liked the towels, too.

Rating:

Value For Money

The Bali hotel market is super competitive, and while Potato Head is not outrageously expensive for what it is, we don’t feel that it excels in this price bracket, either.

It’s acceptable value for money, thoug,h and that’s fine.

Rating:

Food And Beverage Execution

Potato Head has a good reputation for food, but we found the portions to be on the small side while the prices were on the high side.

It looks and tastes good, but it’s certainly not exceptional value for money.

Rating:

Location & Immediate Surroundings

You can’t argue with this location, it’s on the beach in Seminyak with excellent access to the local area and to the rest of the island.

However, the taxi mafia issue is annoying, and we’d really prefer to be able to catch a Grab from the door. We’d also note that late at night, this is part of the nightlife zone of Seminyak and you might not want to wander around on your own.

Rating:

Facilities & Amenities Vs Promise

You can’t argue with the array of amenities at Potato Head and mostly, we felt they were good enough or even of excellent standard. The creative village concept is great.

Rating:

Overall “Personality”

We felt that Potato Head Suites were just an extension of the beach club. Which is nice enough, but that the resort lacked a distinct identity of its own.

You’ll get plenty of fabulous snaps here, but we suspect you’ll be talking about the beach club in years to come, if you talk about it at all.

Summary: Our Overview Of Potato Head Suites

We think the Michelin Guide called this right. Potato Head Suites is a very good hotel, but it’s not exceptional, and in the current climate on the island, if you want a truly standout resort, this might not be it.

On the other hand, if you fancy access to their relatively chilled-out beach club and to Seminyak as a whole, then this place might be more to your tastes.

We’d recommend Potato Head for most people, though if you have mobility problems, you should look elsewhere or expect to seriously overpay for transport due to the ride-share restrictions at the resort.

FAQs

Is Potato Head Suites Family Friendly?

Yes, Potato Head Suites is a family-friendly resort, in theory, but as one recent customer review on TripAdvisor said, “If you bring children, it doesn’t feel right, it’s more suitable for honeymooners and those who want to go to the beach club.”

We’d tend to agree with that. The beach club draws a very eclectic crowd, and there’s no doubt that the resort has become an extension of that.

If you want to take your kids to a beach club, there are certainly more family-oriented properties on the island than this one, too.

Final Thoughts On Potato Head Suites

We thought that Potato Head Suites was a very good resort, but we tend to side with the Michelin Guide on this and would say that it’s not an exceptional resort, either.

While there are lots of facilities here and we like the emphasis on sustainability and eco-friendly behaviour, we often felt like the resort was just an extension of the beach club rather than having its own identity.

And while our team loves beach clubs, there’s no doubt that once we’ve spent our day at a beach club, we like to leave it behind when we go home to rest.

So, whether Potato Head Suites is your ideal choice or not, it very much depends on how you feel about sleeping where you socialise.
