The Viceroy Bali Review, Ubud, Bali: Stay In The Valley Of The Kings

The Viceroy is one of the biggest names on the island, and this luxury hotel is often cited as the “one to beat” by new arrivals on the local hotel scene.

It sits in Ubud’s Valley of the Kings near the river gorge, and the location is absolutely stunning, the sort of place that really makes you think “Paradise Island.”

But does this veteran of the hotel scene here in Bali still have what it takes to create amazing holiday memories? Our team went to find out, and this is what they learned.

Cleanliness and Maintenance

We found this resort to be exceptionally clean throughout and even though it is an older resort, the maintenance team operates like a team of crack commandos to ensure that it always looks and works perfectly.

Rating:

Sleep Quality

The bedrooms are big and both soundproofed and lightproofed, so there are no unwelcome intrusions into your night’s sleep.

And that’s a good thing, because the beds are large, comfortable, and the perfect place for taking a load off your mind and counting sheep.

Rating:

Staff Attitude And Service Culture

As you’d expect at such a magnificent resort, the service culture is very much first-rate, and you will be taken care of very well by the staff who have been empowered to resolve issues rather than escalate them.

Rating:

Check-in/Check-out Experience

The check-in and check-out experience is more than adequate enough to ensure you’re in your villa quickly and feeling comfortable.

Rating:

Bathroom Quality & Functionality

The bathrooms are genuinely exceptional, huge, and with more than enough attention to detail on the fixtures and fittings to make you feel special.

The water pressure, toiletries, towels, etc., are also excellent, and you will enjoy the process of cleaning yourself here.

Rating:

Value For Money

We felt that The Viceroy Bali represented above-average value for money, even at the fairly hefty price tag that a night here commands.

Rating:

Food And Beverage Execution

Aperitif is one of the few restaurants in Bali that most people feel would be guaranteed a Michelin Star if the Michelin Guide ever starts to operate its restaurant review business in Indonesia.

And the food across this resort is exceptional, and the drinks are beautifully made and superbly presented.

Rating:

Location & Immediate Surroundings

This part of the island is very attractive, and Ubud is a place with plenty of things to do and see, but The Viceroy isn’t really within walking distance of anything, so you’ll need transport.

Also, getting out of Ubud to explore the rest of the island can mean dealing with an awful lot of heavy traffic.

Rating:

Facilities & Amenities Vs Promise

The facilities are as promised, and they are world-class. But we can’t help wishing that they had a bit more on offer.

We understand that they’re offering a relaxing, chill experience away from the madding crowds, but we’d still appreciate the chance of a bit more to do.

Rating:

Overall “Personality”

This is a classy and unique establishment that has really set out to define itself in a way that complements the local area and culture.

The Viceroy is the sort of hotel that sparks conversation years after your trip, and you will have fond memories of it when that happens.

FAQs

Is The Viceroy Bali Family Friendly?

Sort of, children are welcome to stay at the Viceroy Bali, which makes it family-friendly on paper, but really, this resort is tailored to couples that are usually child-free.

There is no dedicated kids’ club, and there aren’t very many things for children to do here apart from using the pool and running about the site.

Overall, we don’t think children will have a bad time at this hotel, but it wouldn’t be our first choice in Bali for a family holiday.

Final Thoughts On The Viceroy Bali

The Viceroy Bali remains one of the kings of the Bali hotel scene. This resort is all about attention to detail, and you’ll feel pampered and welcome throughout your stay.

If you want a jungle retreat without any compulsion to do more than chill, then you’re bound to find The Viceroy to be the answer to your prayers.

Sure, it’s pricey, but we think it’s worth it. However, we wouldn’t recommend this to young families; there are other properties that offer much more for kids.
