Munduk Cabins by Desa Hay Review, Munduk, Bali: Frank Lloyd-Wright-Esque Cabins Island-Style

If you love architecture, then you’re bound to love Frank Lloyd-Wright’s famous work, but for us mere mortals, it’s always way outside of our price bracket to stay in one of his creations.

The next best thing might be the Munduk Cabins by Desa Hay in Munduk, Bali; they’ve clearly taken a dollop of inspiration from the great man and infused it with Balinese cool to create a very unique visual experience.

So, there’s no doubt that our writers were super excited to get to go and review this gorgeous spot in the Bali countryside, and this is what they thought of Munduk Cabins by Desa Hay.

Our In-Depth Assessment Of Munduk Cabins

Cleanliness and Maintenance

We felt that the staff had incredible attention to detail and that everything is spotlessly clean and well-maintained at this resort.

We had no issues at all on either front during our stay at Munduk Cabins.

Rating:

Sleep Quality

The beds are big, and the mattresses are comfortable and luxurious, but the rooms are not soundproof, and light sleepers may regret the occasional traffic noise, barking dog or crowing rooster that can be heard from the comforts of your bed.

Rating:

Staff Attitude And Service Culture

The staff here are absolutely fabulous, they’ll all get to know you by name and will work extremely hard to ensure that every aspect of your stay is to your satisfaction. They have been empowered to make the right decisions to that effect, too.

Rating:

Check-in/Check-out Experience

The check-in and check-out processes are just fine. This isn’t a big resort; you won’t be queuing for long, but we do feel it could all be handled online now, too.

Rating:

Bathroom Quality & Functionality

The bathrooms are exceptional, and we loved the big hot tubs where you can sit, soak, relax with a glass of wine (and maybe a book) and just let all your aches and pains ease out of you.

We’d come back to this resort just for the bathrooms, in fact.

Rating:

Value For Money

We felt like we got acceptable value for money at this lovely resort, but we also feel that because Bali has so many hotel options, it didn’t really excel in this area, either. You won’t feel cheated, but you won’t be raving about what a bargain it was, either.

Rating:

Food And Beverage Execution

The food is very good and mostly served in-room or at the fire pits, either of which is great. However, the menu is set to Balinese food, which is lovely, but we’d like a bit more choice all the same, particularly on a longer stay. The chefs do an excellent job of delivering elevated local cuisine.

Rating:

Location & Immediate Surroundings

This is a very safe place with some of the most beautiful views and countryside on the island around it.

Conversely, it’s a bit “middle of nowhere” too, and there’s very little in the local area for you to do, see or explore. You come to Munduk Cabins to get away from it all.

Rating:

Facilities & Amenities Vs Promise

The facilities and amenities they provide, including the pool and fire pits, are all excellent and stand out as features of this property.

However, there really isn’t very much on hand in this hotel to keep you entertained. It’s perfect if you want to chill, less so if you want to do things in the resort.

Rating:

Overall “Personality”

We feel that this is an exceptionally attractive hotel with a very unique look and feel for Bali. The big fire pit seating areas are amazing, and the views out over the mountain range of Bali and the countryside are incomparable.

Overall, not only will you come home with a huge number of amazing photos from this place, but we suspect you will have memories that will last a lifetime, too.

Summary: Our Overview Of Munduk Cabins

Our reviewers felt refreshed and invigorated after a weekend at Munduk Cabins, and if you’re looking for a genuinely relaxing countryside break, you probably will too.

However, there really isn’t much to do here, and while the in-room dining experience is excellent, you will need to be a fan of Balinese food as there’s not much else on offer.

39/50

FAQs

Is Munduk Cabins Family Friendly?

Yes, children are welcome to stay as part of their family in Munduk Cabins by Desa Hay. However, this hotel has no particular child-friendly facilities, and they’ll need to make their own entertainment. The majority of play will need to be in the gardens and countryside, though there is a nice infinity pool.

Overall, we think there are probably better places for families to stay with younger children than Munduk Cabins, though older children may really like the mountainous, country vibe of the place.

Final Thoughts On Munduk Cabins

Munduk Cabins are gorgeous, and if you’re in the mood for a different side of Bali from the crowded beach towns and busy central town of Ubud, this could be just what you’re looking for.

However, this is very much a spot for a retreat rather than to get involved in doing things. It’s going to be best suited for couples seeking a romantic getaway or for digital nomads to work on a special project, or for a weekend break from city life. You might get bored if you stay here for a long period of time.
