You can even have a BBQ in their private BBQ area, which is a really nice touch and one you can’t find at some high-end establishments.
Our only real complaint was that the air conditioning was a little uneven in the dorm rooms, but the amazing staff in this wonderful place easily make up for that.

2. The Jungle Hostel Canggu
You can get a bed in a dorm room in this hostel for as little as 100,000 IDR for the night (that’s just $6 USD or $10 AUD)!
Given that Canggu is not one of Bali’s most affordable areas, that’s a real bargain, and it means you can enjoy more to spend as you take in what this beach town has to offer.

You will need to endure a boat journey to get to the island of Nusa Penida if Exotic View Cottage takes your fancy.
This hostel attracts mainly young people seeking to explore Nusa Penida, and its not far from many of the local restaurants and bars.
Even in peak season, you can get a comfortable bed in one of the rooms here for less than 200,000 IDR, and that’s not bad to have access to the beautiful beaches on this island.
Cheap hotels don’t get much better than Exotic View Cottage in our opinion.

4. Navalia Villa Bedugul
If you want that villa experience in Bali, but your budget doesn’t stretch to the hundreds of dollars a night that it’s going to cost in Canggu or Seminyak, don’t fret.
Head North to Bedugul and you can enjoy a cottage here for as little as 300,000 IDR (approx. $20 USD or $30 AUD) a night!
You’re in a prime spot to get out and enjoy the Mother Temple and do some hiking around Bali’s lakes, too.

This cheap hotel is another bargain on the island of Nusa Penida. You can enjoy a deluxe twin room for as little as 150,000 IDR (that’s $10 USD or $15 AUD), which is probably the best room you will get for this price in any Bali hotel.
The on-site restaurant offers excellent Asian cuisine with vegan, vegetarian and even halal options. And if you pay an extra 20,000 IDR (just about $1.25 USD or $2 AUD), they throw in breakfast with the room rate!
It’s a bit too far to walk to the beach from this spot, but as long as you have a rental bike, this is some of the best budget accommodation on Earth.

This resort may only have two stars, but it’s very budget-friendly, and the pool area is absolutely fantastic.
We found the beds to be extremely comfortable, and it has great reviews online from many other guests, not just us.
If you want to try Jimbaran’s famous seafood and need some solid budget-friendly accommodation, this is a solid hotel pick.

There’s a nice pool, and then there’s a rooftop pool deck in one of the popular beach towns, and this is exactly what you get at Palette in Legian.
You’re a short walk from some of the best bars, clubs and restaurants in the area, too (though be warned, the noise from the club opposite can permeate the hotel before midnight).
We liked that you get 2 bottles of water provided for free every day and that they have lightning-fast room service.

Not every hotel is an actual hotel; glamping is a great thing to do in Bali, thanks to the tropical climate, but even that can get pricey (the most expensive glamping here is over $1,000 USD a night – that’s more than 16 million IDR)!
But not at Bali Sunrise Camp & Home Stay in Kintamani, where you can enjoy luxurious tents and a hot spring pool without splurging.

This is a pretty big hotel, which is super convenient for exploring Jimbaran from, and the rooms are well-equipped and cheap as chips.
It’s got a more corporate feel to it than most budget hotels, but that’s a good thing; it means you get proper maid service and regular clean towels.
It does show some signs of age and wear and tear, but it’s still great value and very near the airport and the immigration offices.

Seminyak has cheap hotels? Well, not very many of them, but this place at 500,000 IDR a night (that’s about $30 USD or $50 AUD) is one of them.
They have an on-site spa, gym, shuttle service and swimming pool which makles this one of the best equipped budget hotels in Bali.
We loved the fact that we were within walking distance of everything we wanted to see in this area.

Sevn has a great infinity pool, and it’s not far from Legian Beach, and rooms still come in at around 500,000 IDR (that’s about $30 USD or $50 AUD) a night!
When the rates are as competitive as this, we recommend booking as fast as possible with a booking site that offers free cancellation up to the date of travel.

However, in recent months, they’ve been slashing rates and running endless promos, and you can often stay here for around 750,000 IDR a night, that’s just $50 USD or $75 AUD.
For a four-star hotel within walking distance of Bali’s most popular beach? That’s a steal, and we love the buffet breakfasts here too.

This is the most expensive place on our list, and it’s in the town of Lovina in Northern Bali, so what gives?
Well, this is essentially 4-star luxury for less than a 3-star price. The rates are typically around 1,300,000 IDR per night which is about $80 USD or $130 AUD.
And for that, you’re beachfront, with all the mod-cons, an amazing room with comfortable fittings and loads of facilities.

Grandmas Plus is a chain of cheap hotels in Bali. We’re big fans of their airport hotel, and this one in Legian is also a great deal.
The rooms are basic, but clean and pleasant and you’re in a grea tlocation within walking distance of all the local attractions.
The dining area at this hotel is gorgeous and was a real highlight of our stay.

Where Is The Best Place To Stay In Bali On A Budget?
All of Bali can be budget-friendly depending on a.) your budget and b.) how much work you want to put in to finding things.
Canggu, for example, is Bali’s most popular area but we’ve got places to stay on the list above for less than $20 a night! There are loads of excellent warungs in Canggu where you can eat for next to nothing.
And the surfing’s cheap and incredible for beginners in Canggu.
Conversely, if you escape the crowds and head to Bedugul, Kintamani, Lovina, etc., on the other side of the island.
You’ll find your money buys a much nicer hotel (or even a villa!) for a few nights, and while “budget” won’t ever mean “luxury hotels” as it does in the Nusa Dua Beach area, you will find plenty of Bali hotels offer budget accommodation wherever you are on the island.
How Much Is A Decent Hotel In Bali?
Budget-friendly accommodation in Bali starts at as little as $10 USD ($15 AUD) a night, and it can go up from there. Private villas in Bedugul might cost $20 a night, similar accomodation in Nusa Dua might be several hundred dollars a night!
The best value accommodation tends to come in places that are not on the standard tourist map – so forget Canggu and Seminyak Beach, Uluwatu and Ubud, etc. and head North or West for the most affordable price on so many hotels.
However, our favorite budget hotels are in areas where the average price of a hotel is high, but you can still get a nice place to stay with clean rooms, the chance to meet your fellow travellers, etc., in a relaxed atmosphere for a reasonable fee. A great location to stay is Canggu. We don’t mind getting a little less hotel room in exchange for the great value that Canggu as a location brings.
Which Part Of Bali Is The Best Place To Stay?
It depends on what you’re looking for. If you want surfing on Echo Beach, Tanah Lot temple and the best nightlife and the world’s best beach club, FINNS, head to Canggu.
Seminyak is the spot if you fancy upmarket nights out and fine dining. Ubud is perfect for visiting temples, nearby waterfalls, local markets and Ubud Palace as well as the infamous monkey forest.
If you want a romantic break, Munduk or Sidemen might be the ideal spots.
