Canggu is Bali’s most popular tourist destination, and that means that you can often find yourself struggling to find reasonably priced accommodation in the area.
Amandaya Canggu is something of a rarity in that respect, a 4-star hotel where you can often get a bed for less than $50 USD a night.
But does that make Amandaya Canggu a bargain, or is there a reason for the low price tag? Our team went to investigate, and this is what they found in this busy corner of Bali.

If you want to stay in Canggu, then rest assured in the knowledge that this place is among the very best resorts in the area.
Cleanliness and Maintenance

There’s an incredible amount of attention to detail at Amandaya when it comes to cleanliness and maintenance.
It’s hard to believe it’s a 4-star hotel with a reasonably priced room rate, given how spick and span everything is here.
Sleep Quality

The rooms aren’t perfect, and there is a little noise leak, though less than you might expect given that this is situated in a fairly busy area.
The beds are very comfortable, though, and the lines are of a high standard. We found that there was almost no light leak and that the rooms were well-ventilated. All in all, a great night’s sleep.
Staff Attitude And Service Culture

One of the best things about staying in Bali is that the staff are absolutely lovely; the island’s natural hospitality culture always comes to the fore.
And this hotel has an exceptional service culture; you will feel that the objective is to ensure you have a fabulous experience throughout the resort.
Check-in/Check-out Experience

The check-in process is perfectly OK, and it’s not the largest of resorts, so you won’t be kept hanging around for very long during the course of things before you’re in your room.
However, while the hotel is clear about this in advance, some floors are only accessible by stairs. They will carry your luggage, but it’s not always fun to drag your way up and down stairs.
Bathroom Quality & Functionality

The bathrooms are perfectly adequate at Amandaya, and we thought that the supplied toiletries were pretty decent, particularly given what we paid.
However, we’d describe these bathrooms more as functional than a value-add part of your holiday.
Value For Money

Canggu is not the cheapest area to stay in, so we think Amandaya represents great value for money if you want something in this part of Bali.
It’s not quite exceptional, mind you, this hotel doesn’t really offer enough facilities to get that extra mark in this category.
Food And Beverage Execution

The only food and drinks here are those provided with breakfast, and they’re pretty good, but we doubt you’d book a room just based on the breakfast, either.
You’ll be happy to learn you’re very close to plenty of bars, cafes and restaurants for your other meals.
Location & Immediate Surroundings

Canggu is currently the best place to stay in Bali; it has the most to do on the doorstep and the best mix of nightlife, beach clubs, beaches, watersports, shopping, etc.
It’s not the most walkable of areas, but you can certainly walk to the beach from here, and it’s easy to get transport to explore the rest of the island.
Facilities & Amenities Vs Promise

There’s not much in the way of facilities at this hotel, but the few that are are as advertised and are in very nice condition.
It’s hard to award a hotel with just a pool, breakfast and a garden more than average marks, though.
Overall “Personality”

This is a nice 4-star hotel, but it doesn’t have any sort of standout features that will leave you talking about it for years to come.
It’s the ideal base for exploring Canggu and Bali rather than the central focus of a holiday.
Summary: Our Overview Of Amandaya Canggu
Amandaya Canggu is a good hotel. It offers excellent value for money in an area where there’s a lot of competition for rooms and thus, prices can be a bit higher than average for Bali.
It’s not going to win any awards for its amenities but overall, if you want somewhere to sleep and occasionally enjoy a pool, while you get out and enjoy everything this exciting area has to offer – it’s ideal.
Grading: Very Good/Happy to Return
Some of our other favourite stays in Canggu include the Ubuntu Bali Eco Yoga Retreat and ZIN Canggu Resort and Villas.
FAQs
Is Amandaya Canggu Family Friendly?
Children are welcome to stay at Amandaya Canggu, so it is family-friendly. However, beyond the garden and pool, there are no particular facilities of interest to kids at this hotel.
We should also note that there are no babysitting services or childcare facilities at this hotel, which means that it might not be the ideal spot for every family.
Having said that, there’s no doubt that at this price point in Canggu, Amandaya is still great value for money for a family on a tight budget.

Final Thoughts On Amandaya Canggu
Amandaya Canggu is an incredibly good 4-star hotel, and while the prices can vary substantially throughout the year, it’s always much cheaper than the surrounding hotels.
Given that it’s not far from the beach, and the most popular beach club in Bali, FINNS Beach Club, as well as a host of restaurants, bars, and entertainment options, we don’t think the lack of amenities at this hotel is a huge issue.
Overall, if you’re on a budget, Amandaya Canggu is an excellent choice of accommodation in this popular part of the island.
