A hostel has to be extraordinarily good to merit a review on this site. Not because we’re snobs, but because generally speaking, the minimal facilities mean that they don’t score highly enough on the assessment criteria to be truly great.
Fortunately, there are some exceptions to that rule and Rhythm & Rumble in Canggu is such an exception. This is probably because it’s also a 4-star rated hotel, mind you.

Cleanliness and Maintenance
It’s a very nice hostel, but it’s still a hostel, and that means not everything is perfectly clean during the course of the day, but that’s less on the cleaning team and more on the guests, to be fair.
It’s more than clean enough, though, and the maintenance team is excellent with no obvious issues anywhere in the building.
Sleep Quality
If you choose a dorm room, you choose a dorm room and that means your sleep very much depends on your dorm mates.
But if you choose the private rooms, then you’ll find decently comfortable beds and rooms that are reasonably quiet (it’s a hostel) for the night. You can get a good but not exceptional night’s sleep on that basis.
Staff Attitude And Service Culture
There’s no doubt in our minds that Rythm and Rumble’s super power is its service culture. The staff here are fantastically helpful, and while there are no private butlers or chefs, in all respects you will enjoy a wonderful stay facilitated by the people who work here.
Check-in/Check-out Experience
The check-in experience is basic but more than good enough to get you past the front desk and into your room with the minimum of fuss.
It’s a decent-sized hostel, but not so big that anyone is going to wait more than a few minutes to get through check-in.
Bathroom Quality & Functionality
The shared bathrooms were surprisingly decent and not a total mess, as they can easily become, but we’d still recommend an ensuite if you can afford one.
We felt that the basic toiletries and reasonable quality towels were about what we’d expect at this budget level in Canggu.
Value For Money
We feel that Rhythm & Rumble is exceptional value for money, though we do need to emphasise “for a four-star hostel”. This isn’t a luxury hotel, and that’s why the basic rack rate is so low.
However, if you want to spend time in Canggu and you have a tight budget, it would be very hard to get a better deal than this one.
Food And Beverage Execution
The food is perfectly fine, and given you’re in Canggu, if you get bored with it at any time, there are plenty of warungs, cafes, restaurants, bars, beach clubs, etc. nearby for you to enjoy, instead.
No, you wouldn’t come here just for the food, but it certainly doesn’t detract from your stay, either.
Location & Immediate Surroundings
It’s Canggu! You can’t go wrong with this amazing part of the island; there’s so much to see, do, and experience.
You’ve got great beaches with some of the best surf spots in the region, boutique stores galore, the world’s best beach club, and much, much more.
Facilities & Amenities Vs Promise
Hostels aren’t famous for offering much more than a bed and a locker, so it’s nice to find one that provides a host of amenities for a reasonable price.
The facilities are also above average, though not quite in the world-class category.
Overall “Personality”
It’s a hostel and if you only ever sleep in hostels, it might prove to be memorable for many years to come, but given that most people will experience higher standards of accommodation than this, we think mostly, you’ll be happy you stayed here and may even think back fondly on the social side of things in future years but you won’t be raving about it in a decade’s time.
Summary: Our Overview Of Rhythm & Rumble
There is a real shortage of first-class accommodation for cheap in Canggu, and Rhythm & Rumble does a great job of occupying that niche and proving you don’t need to compromise on fun, facilities and basic amenities to save cash.
If we were backpacking in Bali and wanted a base in Canggu, we would almost certainly choose Rhythm & Rumble for that base.
Grading: Very Good/Happy to Return
This was one of only two hostels to make our best resorts in Canggu list and you might also enjoy Further Hotel and Ayona Villa in the same area if you want to push the boat out a little.

Is Rhythm & Rumble Family Friendly?
No, Rhythm & Rumble is not very family-friendly. While you can bring your children to stay with you in the private rooms, you will have to pay extra fees.
Also, as this is a hostel environment, there’s a big emphasis on adult fitness and socialising and parties; it’s not a rowdy place, but it’s really not ideal for kids.
Overall, we would recommend staying elsewhere as a family, and once you take into account the extra fees to stay at Rhythm and Rumble, there are better options for the same money for families looking for a holiday in Canggu.
Final Thoughts On Rhythm & Rumble
While dorm rooms are never conducive to a great night’s sleep, you can’t argue with the price of a bed in this hostel.
Our team preferred the private rooms, mind you, and were very impressed with the on-site amenities at this hostel.
Overall, we’d recommend this hostel to anyone seeking a good value stay in the island’s most popular beach town, as long as they’re not bringing any children with them.
