Canggu is Bali’s most popular holiday town, and while there’s no doubt that the image of crowded beach clubs full of happy partygoers is the first thing that comes to mind about Canggu, there’s much more to this town than that.
Desa Hay is a luxury villa complex that sits just outside of the main part of Canggu, and it provides a relaxing haven away from home with truly luxurious pool facilities.
So, our team, who are based in Canggu, were intrigued to find out whether this hotel could give them a break from the hectic nature of everyday life, and this is what they learned.

Cleanliness and Maintenance

The simplicity of the design of this hotel, combined with the first-rate staff, ensures that you will never have any issues regarding cleanliness and maintenance.
We always inspect our rooms from top to bottom to make sure they’re cleaning in the places most people don’t look, and at Desa Hay, they most definitely are.
Sleep Quality

The beds are big and comfortable, and we thought the mattresses were just about perfect, and the pillows were high-quality and plentiful, too.
The resort is just far enough away from the roads and any other sources of noise to ensure that you get a great night’s sleep.
Staff Attitude And Service Culture

The service is absolutely impeccable, and the staff will know your name and be on hand whenever you need them.
We found that they were great at anticipating our wants and needs and responding to them before we’d even fully thought about it.
Check-in/Check-out Experience

The thing is that a small resort doesn’t really need to do much in the way of check-in and check-out; the most you’re ever going to have to wait for is one other group to check in before you.
So, the check-in process was fully acceptable, but it hadn’t been honed in the same way as the very best big resorts have to do.
Bathroom Quality & Functionality

The bathroom is huge, and there’s a rain shower with enough water pressure. The skincare products on offer are simply fabulous, and the towels are fluffy and soft.
We only wish our own bathrooms were as luxurious as the ones at Desa Hay.
Value For Money

We felt that, despite being a little on the expensive side, Desa Hay is good value for money. However, it really needs a few more amenities if it wants to be outstanding.
Food And Beverage Execution

The food and drinks at Desa Hay are prepared by an on-site chef and mixologist, and they’re very good. We really enjoyed eating here. However, this is Bali, and there are so many great restaurants that we don’t think we’d come to Desa Hay just for the food.
Location & Immediate Surroundings

This location is excellent, it’s just far enough from the main roads that there’s no noise, but close enough that you can easily get out and about to explore Canggu.
Facilities & Amenities Vs Promise

The facilities at Desa Hay are absolutely excellent, but there just aren’t very many of them. We do feel that there ought to be a few more perks when staying at a hotel in this price bracket.
Overall “Personality”

Desa Hay is gorgeous. It’s a really charming spot that will take your breath away at first glance. There’s no doubt that you will remember staying here in the future and that your memories will all be good ones.
Summary: Our Overview Of Desa Hay

Desa Hay is a first-rate villa complex and a great place to seek out some peace and quiet among the hectic throngs of Canggu.
If it just had a little more to do, it could be truly world class but we doubt anyone will ever be sorry about spending a few nights at this resort. It’s very good, indeed.
Grading: Excellent/Highly Recommended
Other resorts in Canggu to consider include Regent Bali and Swarga Suites.
FAQs
Is Desa Hay Family Friendly?
Yes, Desa Hay is family-friendly. These are private villas, so you’re welcome to stay in a villa as a family as much as you would be as a couple or a group of friends.
There’s not much in the way of facilities for kids, though, beyond the pools, so it might not be the best option for really young children.
Final Thoughts On Desa Hay
Desa Hay is one of those properties that makes an immediate visual impression, and there’s no doubt that their staff work very hard to ensure that your experience lives up to the promise of the place.
However, while the facilities they do have are excellent, there aren’t very many facilities available when compared to some of the other hotels in this price bracket.
This won’t matter if you intend to spend most of your time out and enjoying everything that Canggu and Bali have to offer, but it might feel a bit limiting if you prefer to spend most of your time in the resort.
