That’s a short hour or so of boat ride away from the mainland, and while the journey can get a bit bouncy in bad weather, it’s a trip worth making if you fancy seeing small island life.

This resort is so good that it made it onto our list of the best glamping sites in Bali. Other nice spots include Galalima Glamping and Sebatu Sanctuary.
Cleanliness and Maintenance
We’ve been saying this a lot recently as we review glamping sites in Bali, but it’s important to note that glamping is not the same as staying in a nicely sanitised resort.
Because the tents are open to the outside world, that outside world comes into the tent at times, and things don’t stay spotlessly clean, no matter how hard the cleaning team works. That’s the nature of glamping.
Sleep Quality
We really enjoyed spending time at this resort. The beds are comfortable, and it’s nice and quiet in the area around the tents, so there’s no real noise pollution.
However, this is in nature, and nature has its own sounds. If you can’t bear the scritching of mice, bird song at dawn, geckos calling at night, etc., you may find it much harder to sleep than we did.
Staff Attitude And Service Culture
We found the staff here to be excellent with a very hands-on management presence, ensuring that everything was positive and enjoyable.
While this kind of operation can’t have the polish of 5-star resorts, it comes with real heart and a sense of caring for the guest. And we like that.
Check-in/Check-out Experience
This is a jungle tent resort, and it’s not huge, so you’re not going to spend very long dealing with the check-in process and checking out is painless too.
We don’t know if they offer baggage storage, but most people won’t need it; they’ll be heading to the harbour for a boat back to Bali when they check out.
Bathroom Quality & Functionality
We thought that the bathrooms were nice and they had good fixtures, fittings, etc., but there’s no escaping that the natural world gets into the bathroom too.
Again, this is the nature of glamping; we’re not complaining about it. But you should secure your toothbrushes to keep the geckos off them.
Value For Money
We thought that Autentik Nusa Penida was exceptional value for money, and given that it’s the only real glamping experience in the islands, it’s nice that they didn’t try to price gouge and made it truly welcoming.
We don’t think anyone is going to feel that they didn’t get a great deal at this place.
Food And Beverage Execution
And that leaves us feeling bad about this grade, but we can’t rate what they don’t have; there’s no restaurant at this property, probably because there are plenty within a short distance that you can walk to.
However, no food is, no food. So make sure you take a snack, or you’ll need to go out to eat.
Location & Immediate Surroundings
This part of Bali is absolutely gorgeous, and when all the day trippers head back to the mainland, nights on Nusa Penida are something very special, and it’s super safe too.
However, the island itself isn’t the best to get around due to atrocious roads, and you will need transportation and getting here can be very rough in bad seas.
Facilities & Amenities Vs Promise
Everything offered on the website is there and in good condition, but there’s really not very much at this place.
It’s very much a few tents in the jungle offering an above average level of comfort and amenities for a night’s sleep.
Overall “Personality”
We don’t think anyone will ever forget a night at Autentik Nusa Penida, it’s a fabulous place and as long as you love being out in nature – you’re going to enjoy staying here.
Given this is a truly one-of-a-kind resort, it has personality to spare and we’d be remiss in giving it anything less than full marks here.

We would stay at Autentik Nusa Penida in preference to the bungalow accommodation on the island’s beaches any day.
It’s a lovely spot and we liked that it’s adults-only too, sometimes it’s nice to get away without the kids and enjoy some real harmony with Mother Earth.
