Sure, you can always head off to somewhere like Amed for a cheaper price, but that means leaving much of the island’s best things to do behind.
The Mahata Legian, however, might be the solution for folks on a tighter budget; it’s just a short walk from the beach, but it promises excellent bang for buck.

This budget property was one of our favourite hotels in Legian.
Cleanliness and Maintenance
It’s a budget hotel, we don’t expect 5-star standards, which is good because we didn’t get them, but we did find everything acceptably clean.
The maintenance wasn’t perfect, mind you, but any issues were swiftly resolved, and that’s nearly as good.
Sleep Quality
The bed is decent enough, not perfect, but you won’t have too much trouble nodding off once you get settled.
The room is well ventilated, and we didn’t find that there was too much noise or light disturbing our rest either.
Staff Attitude And Service Culture
The staff here are very courteous, warm and pleasan,t and they really have some authentic Balinese charm about them.
However, there are clear limits on their authority, after which they need to go looking for a manager to resolve issues.
Check-in/Check-out Experience
There’s nothing wrong with the check-in experience; to be fair, it’s as good as it is at most hotels, no matter the star rating.
It takes a little time, but not so much that you’ll be frustrated. Check-out is easier. And they can store your luggage after you leave your room which is nice.
Bathroom Quality & Functionality
The bathrooms are adequate to the task. The towels are a touch on the small side (or we’re a touch on the big side), and the water pressure is only OK. But overall, you won’t have any issues getting clean here.
Value For Money
It’s not that expensive, and it shows in the facilities you get, but at the same time, it’s decent value for money.
In this part of Bali, it’s nice to secure a room that doesn’t require a second mortgage or sharing it with a few backpackers.
Food And Beverage Execution
The food and beverages are nice enough, after all, it’s a 3-star resort, rather than a place trying for its first Michelin star.
We wouldn’t come back just for the food, but we would eat it again if we were staying here.
Location & Immediate Surroundings
It’s quite a long way from the beach compared to some of the other resorts in this part of town, but that’s part of the reason that it’s cheaper.
The area is safe enough, and there are certainly plenty of restaurants, bars, etc,. within walking distance, and a quick ride share can get you to Canggu, Kuta, Seminyak, etc.
Facilities & Amenities Vs Promise
There aren’t that many facilities, and those they have are OK. It won’t set your world on fire, but you won’t feel disappointed either.
Overall “Personality”
This resort is nice enough, and for a three-star, you can get some nice snaps for your Instagram feed, but it’s not our idea of memorable.

If you need to stretch your pennies but still want to stay in the beach towns, this is a solid choice. The Mahata Legian punches a bit above its weight and is good value for money.
You won’t spend too much time in the hotel anyway, Bali awaits, and there’s a lot to explore once you get your bearings.
We’d recommend this to anyone on a budget or backpackers looking to splurge a little.

Yes, The Mahata Legian is family-friendly, and children are welcome to stay in the resort as long as they are accompanied by their parents or guardians.
However, though there’s a shallow area in the pool for kids, there aren’t any other children’s features in this hotel. So, you’ll need to help your children make their own entertainment without annoying the other guests to get the most out of a stay here.

Sometimes, simple is best. The Mahata Legian is not a fully-featured resort where you can spend days in the hotel without venturing outside, but if you came to see the island, it’s a great choice of a place to rest for the night.
And it’s not without facilities, the pool area is very nice, and the on-site restaurant will certainly ensure you get a good breakfast to start the day with.
Overall, we’d recommend this spot to budget travellers who want access to Kuta, Legian, Canggu, Seminyak, Jimbaran, Uluwatu, Denpasar and Sanur.
