Cleanliness and Maintenance
We think that the cleaning staff do an excellent job of ensuring your room and all the main features of this resort are tidy and there’s no dust lurking in corners beyond sight.
However, the maintenance of older resorts is a little tricky, and there’s no doubt that the facade here is in urgent need of some care and attention. You won’t have any issues with your home comforts, mind you, it’s just that this resort looks old now.
Sleep Quality
They’ve installed soundproofing in the rooms, and the curtains are proper blackout curtains, so you can enjoy a great night’s sleep.
We’d also note that the beds are large and you can enjoy comfortable mattresses, pillows, and bedding, as well as nice ventilation as you rest.
Staff Attitude And Service Culture
One thing that surprised us about staying at The Stones was just how many staff are present compared to the number of guests.
It’s almost like having personalised service, and it’s wonderful. There’s no doubt that this hotel still provides first-rate service to every visitor.
Check-in/Check-out Experience
The Stones seems to be pretty quiet at the moment, which means that we had no real wait at what felt like a very standard check-in.
The check-out process was super easy, and they will store your baggage if you need them to.
Bathroom Quality & Functionality
The bathrooms were nice enough, a decent size with acceptable water pressure. Some basic toiletries are provided, and the towels will certainly get you dry.
For most people, the bathrooms here are at least on par with what they’d have at home.
Value For Money
We think The Stones is now very good value for money. Unlike many properties in Asia that keep their prices high as they age, they’ve been smart about continuing to provide excellent value for guests here.
You certainly won’t complain about what you spent at this resort, and it’s in one of the best places to be in Legian for beach access.
Food And Beverage Execution
The food and beverages here are about what we’d expect in a 5-star resort, and the restaurant facilities are nice enough.
They’re not enough to bring you back to the hotel in their own right, but they are a nice addition to your stay and breakfast is much appreciated.
Location & Immediate Surroundings
Legian is not the most exciting part of Bali, and you may need to grab a ride if you want to party, but the location is safe and great for beach access.
Facilities & Amenities Vs Promise
They provide a decent number of amenities, and while they may look a little worn, everything is in good condition and in full working order.
Overall “Personality”
There was a time when this place was truly inspiring, but it’s a little past that now. It looks amazing at night, when electric light masks the signs of aging, but overall, it’s OK, but no longer jaw-dropping.

We enjoyed our time at The Stones Hotel; it may be old, but it is aging gracefully. The service culture is still exceptional, and everything that matters works exactly as it should.
If you want the peace and quiet of Legian and the convenience of being close to the other, more hectic tourist areas of Bali, this is a very worthwhile consideration, particularly if you’re on a tighter budget but still want a 5-star experience.
