Amed is one of the best diving spots in all of Bali, and that means this town on the East Coast of the island is starting to attract attention from tourists.
It’s not as busy and as popular as the Southern towns near the airport, and that means there are fewer hotels to choose from.
So, we went out to find the best of them, and this is what we thought about Blue Earth Village in Jemeluk Bay, one of the quirkiest hotels we’ve visited in Bali.

Cleanliness and Maintenance
Cleaning and maintenance are very good at this resort, but it’s not too hard to find a spot that the staff missed or where the wear and tear is quite noticeable, either.
This won’t spoil your holiday, of course, and given the location, it’s harder to attract the best staff and to reinvest in a property than in other parts of the island.
Sleep Quality
We found the beds themselves to be comfortable, and though a review we’d seen had made us nervous about the possibility of bed bugs, we could find no trace of such critters anywhere.
However, there is quite a bit of noise carried into the room from the hotel bar, which serves not just the guests, but also other folks in the local area. If you like an early bedtime, that may not be very good for your sleep.
Staff Attitude And Service Culture
The staff don’t quite have the professional polish of some of the big brand-name resort staff, but we found that they were very helpful and kind.
They also resolved any minor issues that we had, at least those within their power to resolve, quickly and efficiently.
Check-in/Check-out Experience
The check-in and check-out processes are more than efficient enough. This isn’t a huge resort, and it’s unlikely that you’re going to run into crowds of people trying to check in at the same time as you.
One thing you must be aware of is that transport is a bit thin on the ground in Amed; it’s best to have something lined up before you check out.
Bathroom Quality & Functionality
The bathrooms are just fine, not the best that we’ve seen in Bali, but not the worst, either.
There’s decent water pressure and enough hot water, but the fixtures and fittings are a bit tired, and the toiletries and towels are only OK.
Value For Money
It may not be perfect, but despite its flaws, this place is excellent value for money, and you get a lot more than you would in this price range in the Southern beach towns.
It’s a great reason to get out and explore the rest of Bali, just to see how much further your money goes.
Food And Beverage Execution
The on-site restaurant is very much needed given the location of this resort; sadly, it’s a very hit-and-miss place.
Sometimes, the food is genuinely awesome; sometimes, it’s not. And that’s a shame because with a little bit more effort, we think this could be a major selling point for Blue Earth Village.
Location & Immediate Surroundings
Amed is brilliant for diving and OK for snorkelling; otherwise, there’s not much going on in the area, and you will need transportation.
We should also note that you’re a long way from the most popular spots in Bali, and if you have to travel to the airport on the same day as you check out, make sure to allow a lot of time for traffic delays.
Facilities & Amenities Vs Promise
We felt that this resort packed a huge amount of value into the place and that everything they advertised was present. However, some of it is a little run-down and could use an overhaul.
Overall, though, you can’t get bored easily in this resort.
Overall “Personality”
Blue Earth Village is charming, and the layout is quirky and interesting. We think you’ll remember this place for a good while after you leave.
However, we’re not sure that every memory will be a positive one and that’s why we deducted a mark here.

There isn’t a lot of choice in Amed and Blue Earth Village’s charm and oddness make for a very good resort with a lot of facilities for guests to enjoy.

Is Blue Earth Village, Jemeluk Bay Family-Friendly?
Yes, this resort is family-friendly, and they welcome children of all ages. However, they charge children 4 and above as adults.
They may be able to provide an extra cot for free, but no extra beds are available at this hotel with or without charge.
We should also note that the only kids’ facility they have is a pool; there are no other facilities, and there’s no babysitting service available, either.

Blue Earth Village is a bit of an odd duck. It’s a resort that makes a bit of a statement in its design, and you’re going to either love or hate it.
Assuming it’s your cup of tea, it’s very good value and offers a lot of facilities for a hotel in this part of the world.
