If you’re heading to Bali for a holiday and you’re hoping to find that old-school Bali luxury for a bargain price tag, there are far fewer options than there once were.
However, the Kuta Beach area has recently become appreciably more competitively priced, due to the erosion of the beach itself.
So, our team went out to find out if Ramayana Suites & Resort in Kuta is as tempting as its low price tag suggests it might be, and this is what they learned.

This property is one of our favourites in Kuta, Bali.
Cleanliness and Maintenance

This is an older resort, and while there’s no doubt that the cleaning team and maintenance team work hard, there are moments where more investment is needed.
Door frames don’t always fit correctly, the fixtures and fittings are long in the tooth, moving objects reveals missed dust, etc. None of it is holiday ruining, but it does speak of a much greater need for attention to detail.
Sleep Quality

Mostly, you will sleep well in this hotel, though the beds also suffer from being older and thus, they are not always entirely even across the surface of the mattress.
Sensitive sleepers are going to want for a bit more, but we found that the airflow, quality bedding and lack of noise and light pollution were more than enough for a good night’s sleep.
Staff Attitude And Service Culture

While we found that the staff here were as friendly and warm as they are at most hotels in Bali, and with a keen eye on delivering results, we also found them to be epically slow at times.
Reporting a minor issue would often lead to a long wait for a resolution, and sometimes required repeated attempts to get things fixed.
Check-in/Check-out Experience

This is a fairly big resort, but despite that, we felt that the check-in was pretty seamless, and we were in our rooms pretty quickly. Be warned, though, if you have mobility issues, some of the corridors here are very long.
Check out was also fairly painless, and we were underway pretty quickly after vacating our rooms.
Bathroom Quality & Functionality

The overall bathroom experience is good with excellent water pressure, instant hot water and nice toiletries and towels.
However, the fixtures and fittings looked old enough and creaky enough that they might have made an appearance on The Ark before arriving here; they need upgrading asap.
Value For Money

We don’t feel you can complain about the value for money at all, though; despite its flaws, this hotel is extremely cheap for a 5-star hotel in Bali.
If you’re looking to stay in Kuta, then you’re going to be very happy about the money you put in here.
Food And Beverage Execution

The breakfast was pretty good, but otherwise, the food here is very much average, and given how many amazing restaurants and cafes there are in Bali, that’s not really good enough anymore.
You won’t be sai you ate here, but once you try the options outside of the hotel, you probably won’t eat here very much.
Location & Immediate Surroundings

Kuta still has a lot going for it, great shopping malls, cheap nightlife and plenty to do. However, we can’t help but note that it’s the dodgiest area in Bali, and some caution should be taken late at night.
There’s also the question of the severe erosion on Kuta Beach, which has sadly led to the loss of one of the finest strips of sand in Bali.
Facilities & Amenities Vs Promise

The facilities here are as advertised but nothing is in first-rate condition, it’s all a little worn, which is acceptable at this price point but a little disappointing all the same.
Overall “Personality”

This is a nice hotel but given its many flaws, it would be hard to list it as the highlight of any holiday, you will remember your holiday in Bali but you’ll probably forget about this place a week after you get back home.
Summary: Our Overview Of Ramayana Suites & Resort

It’s the price tag on the rooms that makes this a good choice for a holiday, The Ramayan Suites & Resort is a bit older and has some genuine flaws but at this price? Who cares.
It’s a great choice for a bargain break in Bali, but you should be aware of the issues around Kuta Beach before you book.
Grading: Very Good
Other great places to stay in this neighbourhood include Arayaduta Bali or Sulis Beach Hotel.
FAQs
Is Ramayana Suites & Resort Family Friendly?
Yes, children are welcome to stay with parents and guardians at this resort. There are specific terms attached to each room type as to the age at which children are considered “adults” and must be paid for additionally. Make sure to clarify this with the resort before you book.
There are plenty of family-friendly rooms with interconnecting functionality so that even large families can all stay together, and there are child-specific facilities.
However, there is no kids’ club or babysitting services available, so you will need to spend your holiday with your children if you stay here.
Final Thoughts On Ramayana Suites & Resort
The Ramayana Suites & Resort is excellent value for money, and while Kuta Beach has definitely lost its allure, this is still a great part of town for a poolside holiday and lots of excellent facilities.
You’re not far from Waterbom, Asia’s largest waterpark, and two of Bali’s biggest shopping malls.
Overall, we think that as long as you don’t mind the loss of beach access, this place is going to make for a very good holiday, indeed.
