Cleanliness and Maintenance
Look, you have to understand that if you book a hotel in the trees in the jungle, you’re going to have to deal with some of the natural world.
The cleaning staff and maintenance crew do admirable work, but mosquitoes, ants, spiders, lizards, etc., are par for the course in the Balinese countryside.
Sleep Quality
The beds are excellent, and we felt that you would almost be guaranteed of a good night’s sleep if you enjoy the sound of the natural world.
However, if a tokay lizard makes an appearance, its cry (rather like that of a rooster) can keep people awake. Again, there’s not much the resort can do about this.
Staff Attitude And Service Culture
While the service is most definitely not as polished as it is in the 5-star resorts that pepper the island, there’s no doubt that they pride themselves on doing a great job here.
The interactions feel authentic and genuinely welcome, and while there may be occasional confusion when an issue arises, it will be put right.
Check-in/Check-out Experience
The check-in process is pretty much exactly what you’d expect at a fairly basic resort in the jungle, and you’ll be in your room very quickly. Not least, because this isn’t a very big resort.
Bathroom Quality & Functionality
Mostly, we think the bathrooms are very good, and we don’t mind the occasional surprise appearance from a gecko; we think it adds to the rustic charm.
However, the toilet doesn’t flush very well, and it seems to be a design flaw rather than something the maintenance team can address.
Value For Money
We felt that this hotel was very good value for money, but it wasn’t perfect, and we think you should be aware of the drawbacks of staying in the jungle before you decide to book.
If you do, we think you’ll agree with our assessment of value. For this price, it’s very good quality.
Food And Beverage Execution
The food is pretty good, and we enjoyed the breakfast here very much, though we thought the coffee was pretty disappointing by comparison.
Overall, we doubt you’d come back here just to eat, though if you’re staying here, given that this area is very spread out, you’ll probably eat here several times.
Location & Immediate Surroundings
It’s a very nice area, which, like most of Bali, is very safe and given how spread out it is, you’re not ever going to run into someone unsavoury even in the wee small hours of the morning.
However, it is spread out and that means transportation is a mus,t as walking is not a practical strategy for getting around.
Facilities & Amenities Vs Promise
For the money, it has rather more facilities than most places and given that it is a tree house venue, that’s a big surprise.
The facilities that are available are also kept in very good condition. You’re not going to get bored easily here.
Overall “Personality”
OK, it’s not quite on the Bambu Indah end of the personality scale but Roots Tree House has plenty of personality, and if you’re staying here as part of a one-off trip to Bali, we are extremely positive that you’re going to be talking about it when you get home with friends and family.

Staying in a treehouse in Bali is one of those things that only a few privileged souls will ever do, and that means it’s a great experience if you like a little adventure and don’t mind a bit of nature in your personal space.
Given that the wildlife in Bali is relatively harmless, we think this is a good way to spend some of your holiday time.

Yes, Roots is a family-friendly property. However, you should note that while children of all ages are welcome, children over the age of 3 are charged at the full adult price.
There are also no particular facilities for children at this hotel, and they do not have a kids’ club or any form of babysitting services.
This is probably only ideal for short stays with your family, before moving on to another property with a bit more to do.

Roots Tree House is a lovely spot with some very nice views and a relaxed vibe. However, we have to stress that you’re a bit away from the rest of the island here, so if exploring Bali is your vibe, it’s not going to work.
But if you want a chilled out break away from the rat race, and to spend some time enjoying the sunshine in a unique home? Then, Roots Tree House should be high up on your list of places to stay.
