Cleanliness and Maintenance
In these smaller villa properties, we tend to find that the cleaning team does a first-rate job (not least, because they aren’t overloaded with work), but that maintenance isn’t always tip-top.
There are just some minor things that could be better maintained; they won’t ruin your holiday, but they could be better all the same.
Sleep Quality
The resort has excellent, comfortable beds with nice bedding, good ventilation, etc. and mostly, you’ll get a good night’s sleep.
However, there’s no doubt that the soundproofing could use a little work, and if there is noise around, it does carry. This wasn’t a regular occurrence, but light sleepers should bring earplugs, just in case.
Staff Attitude And Service Culture
We felt that the staff here were excellent and willing to go the extra mile as often as it was required; there was a genuine focus on creating an amazing customer experience.
We’d also note that we really didn’t have any issues during our time at Atap Resort, which was nice.
Check-in/Check-out Experience
We found that the check-in process was fast and efficient (as you’d expect at a very small resort) and that we were in our rooms very quickly after arriving.
Check out is similarly painless, and this being Canggu, it’s super easy to get around afterwards; you won’t wait long for a Grab or Gojek to move onward.
Bathroom Quality & Functionality
The bathrooms were very decent, though we felt that the hot water heaters could have been a little more efficient.
The supplied toiletries were pretty basic, but the towels were very nice and the sort of thing we’d choose for home use.
Value For Money
You can’t go wrong with the price tag at Atap Resort, and we think you’re going to be very happy if you choose to stay here.
It’s excellent value for money, and in this neighbourhood, it’s a bit of a steal. So, remember to book early, or you might miss out.
Food And Beverage Execution
There’s no real food provision here beyond a very basic in-room dining/in-pool dining menu. But it’s enough to keep you going until you can be bothered to walk 5 minutes and hit up one of the many excellent restaurants or cafes in the local area.
This is one of the drawbacks of very small resorts: you don’t get a lot of food options on-site.
Location & Immediate Surroundings
Canggu is, to us, the best place to stay in Bali. It’s the most alive, it has the most things to do, and you can enjoy some of the world’s best dining, shopping, surfing, etc., here.
It’s also very safe and there are plenty of easy ways to get out and explore the rest of Bali. There are even some lovely cows in the field next door.
Facilities & Amenities Vs Promise
This is a very stripped down 5-star resort offering the basics but not much more, everything advertised is as promised and in decent condition, but there really isn’t very much of it.
Overall “Personality”
The Atap Resort is nice enough but we doubt that it’s going to be the highlight of anyone’s vacation, either.
It puts a roof over your head and then you can get out and enjoy this amazing part of Bali and make the memories you will cherish.

For the price, you can’t go wrong with Atap Resort, if it sounds like your cup of tea, it is. And frankly, for a lot of people who like to enjoy experiencing Bali, it’s perfect.
But if you want a resort with a lot of things to do so you don’t need to get out and about, this isn’t it.
