The Surga is an amazing place, and in our estimation, it’s one of the 20 best luxury properties on the island. As you might expect, it’s also one of our favourite properties in Uluwatu.
Cleanliness and Maintenance
There’s simply no room for slacking at this price point for accommodation in Bali, and there isn’t any to be found at The Surga, either.
Everything is beautifully maintained and cleaned. People trust their wedding memories to the team here, so we’d expect no less.
Sleep Quality
While you may find there’s a little daytime noise drift from the beach clubs down on Melasti Beach, it’s only something you can pick up outside.
In the rooms, you’ll be surrounded by quiet, in light-insulated and well-aired circumstances. The beds are amazing too. We had fabulous dreams here.
Staff Attitude And Service Culture
The staff here set the tone for everything, and there’s no doubt that these are the best of the best. When you’re serving a fixed group for days on end, it has to be that way.
From the butler to the maids and beyond, the service at The Surga is simply exceptional.
Check-in/Check-out Experience
Check-in is always pleasantly simple at resorts where there are only 1 or 2 groups at any time, and they will be expediting your stay in every means possible when you arrive.
Check out is similarly painless. And yes, they can store your bags if you need them to after check out.
Bathroom Quality & Functionality
The bathrooms are the height of luxury, and we loved the little touches, from the superb towels to the toiletries.
Most of all, the water pressure was perfect, which is hard to guarantee in Uluwatu due to issues with the supply.
Value For Money
So, is The Surga worth the huge cash outlay? Yes, we felt that it was. In fact, we had a bit of a debate as to whether this was good or great value for money.
We settled on good, but it could have gone either way.
Food And Beverage Execution
The food and beverages are very good, but we don’t think that, compared to the absolute excellence of all the other touches at this resort, they quite matched up.
That’s fine, Uluwatu and the Melasti area have plenty of other places to eat out.

Location & Immediate Surroundings
Uluwatu is a great place to stay, and it’s very popular at the moment. The views from up on the cliff top are amazing, and the access to Melasti Beach is amazing.
However, it’s also remote to the rest of the island and if you want to explore the rest of Bali, be prepared to spend a lot of time in traffic.
Facilities & Amenities Vs Promise
Everything they advertise is available, and yes, it’s all to a consistently excellent standard; there’s never a moment at this resort where you are underwhelmed by the experience.
We would note this is particularly important if you’re organising a wedding here. And we can see why so many people come to The Surga for that purpose.
Overall “Personality”
This is a stunning resort with so much personality that we can’t imagine it being anything other than seared into the memory of people who have had the good fortune to stay here.
And while it might seem expensive, don’t forget that you get either 6 or 7 bedrooms per villa here. That leaves it about the same cost as a 5-star hotel per room.
Summary: Our Overview Of The Surga Villa Estate
We would absolutely love to return to The Surga Villa Estate at some point. It’s a fabulous home away from home where they really make sure to attend to the small details.
Of course, you really need a big group to share it with and the financial wherewithal to cover the 3-day booking, but if you do, it will be worth it.

The Surga Villa Estate is an ultra-premium villa, and while it’s probably out of the budget range of most holidaymakers in Bali, if you have a big group and a special occasion to celebrate, it’s an incredible experience.
You will be waited on hand and foot, and treated like royalty throughout your stay at this villa complex, and while it may not have an endless number of facilities, what is there is spectacular.
Overall, we’d be happy to recommend The Surga Villa Estate to anyone interested in staying there, as long as they can afford it.
