10 Best Family-Friendly Hotels In Jimbaran: Calm Bay Beaches, Private Pools And Plenty To Keep The Kids Busy

Family walking on the beach at sunset, the kind of moment the best family friendly hotels in Jimbaran offer

Jimbaran may not get the press coverage of Uluwatu, Canggu and Seminyak, but it’s one of the most appealing settings for families looking for an amazing Bali holiday.

The crescent-shaped bay on the island’s southwest coast delivers nice and relatively calm waters for young children to swim in, soft sand and the most famous beachfront seafood restaurants in all of Indonesia. Sunset dinners in Jimbaran are always a highlight of the trip.

When you compare it to the high-energy towns of Kuta and Seminyak, Jimbaran is far more relaxed, and it’s easily as close to the airport and most major attractions as the other two.

Great family hotels and resorts in this town will offer easy beach access (either direct or just a short walk to the sand) combined with spacious villas and suites. They have multiple pools (often including a dedicated pool for children or a shallow/kids’ area), supervised kids’ clubs run by childcare professionals, and thoughtful extras such as free cots, kids’ menus, and babysitting services.

Parents tell us that they like properties that deliver private or semi-private spaces so that their kids can explore safely, while the adults enjoy some quiet moments, spa time or a proper meal. Many of Jimbaran’s resorts offer cultural activities, beach toys and very easy access to this area’s feted dining scene.

Here are, in our opinion, the ten best family-friendly hotels and resorts in Jimbaran. We’ve selected them for their consistent parental feedback, genuinely useful kids’ amenities, convenient locations, and their overall suitability for a family holiday.

Practical Tips For Families That Visit Jimbaran

Kids playing on the calm beach at Jimbaran Bay
image source: InterContinental Bali Resort google profile business

As with every area in Bali, Jimbaran has a few quirks, and it’s good to prepare for your visit by reading up on them. Here are our tips for getting the most out of your Jimbaran holiday.

Jimbaran’s waters are calmer than in most other resort towns in Bali, but you must still supervise your kids while they are in the water. We cannot stress enough that on most stretches of beach here, there is no lifeguard service. If your children find themselves in trouble, it’s up to you to ensure they return to shore safely.

Many of the resorts in this area provide either a free or paid airport transfer service. We strongly recommend taking them up on this offer; yes, it can be a little more expensive than a ride-share or a taxi from the airport.

But when you have kids in tow and a bunch of luggage, having somebody meet you at the airport door, carry that luggage and ensure you all get straight to the hotel is a priceless convenience.

Always make sure that you check out and confirm all details with the hotel when you book, from the use of cots and high chairs to kids’ club age ranges and hours.

It’s a good idea to hire a private driver and car to get around when you want to get out and about. Most hotels and beachfront seafood restaurants will provide high chairs and kids’ menus.

Is Jimbaran A Good Destination For A Family Holiday?

Jimbaran is a brilliant destination for a family holiday in Bali. It’s close to the airport, so there’s little travel time when you arrive. It’s full of family-friendly resorts, and it’s famous for the best seafood in the archipelago.

It also has calm waters, which means that family swimming is easier and safer than in some other parts of the island, particularly for younger children.

It has a very relaxed and laid-back vibe. There’s no heavy traffic or loud nightlife; this is pure sleepy, slow, island living, and it’s great if all you want to do is unwind after a long year at work.

It’s also famous for its epic sunsets over the ocean while you enjoy dinner on the beach. You can’t go wrong with Jimbaran.

Is Jimbaran Safe?

Yes, Jimbaran is considered to be one of the safest and most family-friendly destinations in South Bali and the island as a whole is generally thought to be very safe, indeed.

It’s important to note that violent crime is pretty much non-existent in Bali except in alcohol-related incidents between foreigners. With next to no nightlife, Jimbaran is safer than average in this respect.

Petty theft is a real issue everywhere in the world, not just in Jimbaran. Make sure to keep an eye on your possessions whenever you are out and about, particularly in crowded areas.

You can even walk safely in this area late at night, as long as you stick to the main roads, which are well lit and peaceful.

However, there are health-related risks in the tropics that you might not have encountered before. We encourage you to visit your family physician months before you travel, ensure you have all the right vaccinations and talk to them about any specific issues that you might be facing.

Food hygiene is a minor concern in any developing country, and we’d stick to reputable beachfront restaurants in this area; there’s nothing worse than Bali Belly for every member of the family when there are only so many hotel toilets to go around.

While the water is much safer than in other parts of the South Coast, it’s still important to supervise your children and never swim near active boat lanes, where you might be clipped by an incoming boat.

We strongly recommend that if you want to get around Bali or the local area, you either book a car using a ride-sharing service or rent a private car and driver (this is extremely cheap and easy to do). Avoid scooters. The roads in Bali are in poor condition, and driving standards are non-existent; accidents are very common, and it’s best to avoid scooters, particularly with little ones.

Finally, we recommend reef-safe sunscreen, a hat and cover-ups to ensure that you don’t end up with sunburn. The Bali sun can be particularly brutal if you’re not used to it.

Which Family-Friendly Hotels Are Closest To The Beach In Jimbaran?

Nearly all the hotels in Jimbaran are either directly on the beach or on the road opposite the beach.

Some of the best beachside resorts are InterContinental Bali Resort, Four Seasons Resort Bali at Jimbaran Bay, Jimbaran Bay Beach Resort & Spa and Movenpick Resort & Spa Jimbaran Bali.

Is Jimbaran Good For Families With Young Children?

We think Jimbaran’s an excellent place for families with young children. The resorts are almost all right next to the beach, which makes it super easy to get the kids from the pool to the sand and back again.

The water is relatively calm and as long as your kids are supervised, swimming here is safe (unlike in some of the other beach towns where the currents are unpredictable and fierce).

The area itself is relaxed and far from the heavy traffic that haunts many of Bali’s main roads, and it’s a short drive from the airport. It’s always nice to be able to rock up at Ngurah Rai Airport and be in your hotel room in less than 30 minutes. Something that people staying in Ubud would need a miracle to be able to achieve.

What Are The Best Large Resort Complexes In Jimbaran  With Activities For All Ages?

The two most popular will be RIMBA and the larger AYANA resort, as not only do they offer endless dining options and massive pool networks, but it’s easy to get around the two sites (and between them) using the complimentary shuttle service on site. This shuttle can also take guests to the beach.

The other major choice for a sprawling resort would be the InterContinental, which might not quite match AYANA’s scale, but offers a near-endless choice of entertainment for kids.

Which Hotels Have The Best Kids’ Clubs And Toddler Policies In Jimbaran?

There’s always an element of horses for courses when discussing the best kids’ clubs and toddler policies, but the InterContinental with its Planet Trekker Club and Movenpick Resort & Spa Jimbaran Bali, which has dedicated play areas and many family-friendly activities, are often highlighted by parents as standout offerings.

It’s worth noting that many of the hotels in Jimbaran insist that guests at kids’ clubs must be 4 years or older, but will “bend” that policy as long as the child is always accompanied by an adult. It’s worth checking with your resort before you book as to whether this is the case.

Final Thoughts On Family-Friendly Fun In Jimbaran

Golden sunset over the beach in Jimbaran

Jimbaran is a great area for a family holiday; it’s got views, calm waters and plenty to do within a short distance. It also has the best seafood on the island (and certainly the freshest, as this is where the catch is hauled ashore each day).

The best hotels for families here will pair the bay’s natural advantages of calm water, soft sands and excellent sunset dining with practical amenities for the family. Such as private and/or multiple pools, a supervised kids’ club that incorporates the local culture, spacious accommodation and, of course, service that understands the challenges of travelling with young children.

Whether you opt for the luxury of Umah Rare Club at the Four Seasons, the multi-pool sprawling resort energy of the InterContinental or RIMBA by AYANA, the pirate-themed fun offered by the Movenpick or the beachfront convenience of Le Meridien, it’s not hard to find a property in Jimbaran that’s been designed around a great family experience.

Jimbaran is best for families that want a more relaxed beachside base with easy and straightforward access to excellent food and enough facilities to keep everyone happy through their stay.

As always, we recommend you choose your hotel based on your kids’ ages and preferences, and then you prioritise multi-bedroom or villa options to ensure you all have enough space to breathe.

After that, you can prepare for easy beach days, playing around the pool and some of the most memorable seafood sunset dinners of your lives. Your kids won’t forget the sand, the pools and playing with new friends on the resort grounds, and you’re going to remember how easy it all is in this place with calm waters, delicious food and endless family comfort.
