COMO Uma Canggu is one of the defining landmarks around Echo Beach, and the hotel has been in place for quite a while now.
It’s famous for its pet-friendly brunches among many other things, and there’s a definite family vibe about this luxurious spot.
So, our team was keen to go out and enjoy spending some time at this grand dame of the area and to see if an older hotel could still deliver a top-notch experience. This is what they discovered at COMO Uma Canggu, Bali.

This property features in our roundup of the finest beachfront resorts in Bali. It’s also one of our top 20 hotels in Canggu. It’s even one of our best family-friendly properties in Bali.
Cleanliness and Maintenance

COMO Uma Canggu is very clean, as you’d expect a 5-star resort to be, and the rooms are spotless and really well attended to.
However, this is an aging hotel and no matter how hard the maintenance crew works, there are definitely signs of former glories starting to appear at this property.
Sleep Quality

We can’t fault the sleep quality; the beds are big, and we found the linens to be crisp and cool; the room has excellent airflow.
We also didn’t find that there was any noise leak, and given that this area has some pretty hectic nightlife, that’s essential.
Staff Attitude And Service Culture

We’ve never been in a 5-star hotel in Bali where we felt that the staff culture was lacking. The local warmth and friendliness have been polished to a high degree of professionalism, and it’s awesome.
They go out of their way to ensure that you have a fabulous holiday in Bali.
Check-in/Check-out Experience

We didn’t find the check-in process to be especially laborious, and we were quickly in our rooms after arrival, with our bags brought safely too.
The check-out process is pretty streamlined, and you can leave your bags at the hotel if you need to after checking out.
Bathroom Quality & Functionality

The bathrooms are really nice, but they are showing signs of wear and tear, and while it doesn’t detract from the washing experience, the overall aesthetic appeal is a touch dimmed.
Otherwise, the water pressure is excellent, the rooms are big enough and towels and toiletries are first rate.
Value For Money

We felt that COMO Uma Canggu delivered good value for money, and there’s certainly a lot to do both in the hotel and in the area around it.
However, there’s also no denying that this hotel is getting older, and it doesn’t quite have the oomph of yesteryear, which might have pushed it to excellent value.
Food And Beverage Execution

We were a little disappointed in the food and beverage offering; it’s not bad at all, and if you like to capture shots of your food for the ‘Gram, then there’s no doubt that you’ll find it aesthetically pleasing.
But it’s all very good, rather than in a class of its own, and that’s a bit of a shame, for a hotel with as many outlets to eat/drink in, we expected a bit more.
Location & Immediate Surroundings

If you love to surf than this hotel on Echo Beach couldn’t be better positioned, and if you don’t, well, the area is still one of Canggu’s best.
It has a calmer vibe compared to Batu Bolong or Berawa, and yet, there’s still plenty of restaurants, bars, etc., not far from you. It’s a safe area too.
Facilities & Amenities Vs Promise

There are plenty of facilities at this hotel, and they deliver on everything they advertised, and most of them are above average in quality, though rarely anything beyond that.
Things like the beach club are very nice to have, and for families, a kids’ club can be a lifesaver on holiday.
Overall “Personality”

This hotel was once the absolute king of the Canggu shoreline, but today it’s a bit older and has a slightly more lived-in appeal.
We think most people will find it has personality, but not the sort of vibe that stays with you forever; certainly, for a few years, you’ll remember it fondly.

Final Thoughts On COMO Uma Canggu
COMO Uma Canggu is showing a few signs of aging, but if you have a young family and a desire to stay in Canggu, it’s still one of the best options out there.
The onsite beach club is a big value add, as is the kids’ club, and the food’s not bad, too.
