The Ungasan is something of a legend on the Bukit Peninsula, and the clifftop resort certainly has some of the most impressive ocean views on the island.
Many visitors opt for this resort just for their floating breakfast, which is an extremely Instagrammable meal, and it’s very popular with influencers.
It’s also a regular choice of wedding venue on the island, thanks to the photogenic nature of the setting.
So, it was an easy choice to send out our review team to this place, and this is what they learned at the Ungasan Clifftop Resort in Ungasan.

Cleanliness and Maintenance

While overall, we felt that this resort had great attention to detail when it came to cleanliness, we also found several minor maintenance issues in our room while we were there.
Once we alerted the management, these were swiftly attended to and in no way impacted the quality of our stay. However, we do feel that a little bit more proactivity could have avoided the issues in the first place.
Sleep Quality

This hotel offers excellent, high-quality beds that are well-made up and super comfortable. We’d also note that this resort is quite a long way from any possible external noise sources, so you’re pretty much guaranteed to get a good night’s sleep.
With an in-room butler service, you will also find that they provide a nightly turn-down service to ensure that your bed feels fresh and clean every time you use it.
Staff Attitude And Service Culture

We felt that the staff at The Ungasan Clifftop Resort were a real highlight of the stay, and they exemplify the famous Balinese warmth and hospitality, and combine it with real professionalism and attention to detail.
Check-in/Check-out Experience

We doubt that there’ll be much of a queue at check-in at this resort, and the check-out process is straightforward enough, but overall, there’s nothing special about this experience; it’s very similar to the check-in/out and any top resort.
Given the hotel’s location, you’re unlikely to want to leave your bags here after check out, but you can if you need to.
Bathroom Quality & Functionality

The bathrooms are big and spacious, and modern enough. They come with a solid range of toiletries (and if you need anything else, you can always ask your butler for it).
Value For Money

Value for money has to be in comparison to other resorts in Bali, and we feel that The Ungasan is definitely worth what you pay for it, but it’s not exceptional value for money, either.
The resort is looking a little old now, and there are a lot of amazing options in this price bracket that are newer and, perhaps, in more accessible locations.
Food And Beverage Execution

The food is excellent, but it’s expensive. Having a captive audience due to the hotel’s position on the Bukit doesn’t hurt, and we also felt that occasionally the service of food here, particularly at breakfast, was a little on the slow side.
Location & Immediate Surroundings

If you want peace and quiet, this is a good location to stay in, but it’s quite remote from any of the major sights on the island and other popular areas.
Facilities & Amenities Vs Promise

We felt that the facilities were in line with what was promised, and they are all of good quality; however, we weren’t blown away by the offerings either, and we felt that Sundays Beach Club lagged behind other beach clubs on the island and wasn’t great value for money.
Overall “Personality”

We think it would be impossible to argue that this place lacks personality; it’s a gorgeous resort which looks amazing in photographs, and you won’t forget your stay at a hotel with such dramatic views over the ocean.
Summary: Our Overview Of The Ungasan Clifftop Resort

A stay at the Ungasan Clifftop Resort is a genuine privilege, and that’s reflected in the high room rates. A villa here will provide some serious luxury while you’re away from home.
The view from the clifftop is spectacular, and the onsite facilities are very good. We wouldn’t expect anyone to complain about staying here.
Grading: Very Good/Happy to Return

FAQs
Is The Ungasan Clifftop Resort Family Friendly?
Yes, children are welcome throughout this resort and all of its facilities. Children under 12 stay for free as long as they are accompanied by a parent or guardian.
However, there’s no Kids Club, and there are no child-oriented facilities beyond those offered in the associated beach club. This is unlikely to be a problem with pool and garden access; kids will usually be happy to make their own entertainment here.
Final Thoughts On The Ungasan Clifftop Resort
The Ungasan Clifftop Resort offers luxury, refinement and incredible views of the island, combined with above-average amenities. However, a stay here does come at a fairly hefty price tag.
This is the perfect place to come for a wedding getaway or to really treat yourself for a few days. Our only caveat is that the Bukit Peninsula isn’t the best place to be for easy access to the rest of Bali.
