Bali is becoming synonymous with yoga lessons and classes, and while Ubud has traditionally dominated the yoga scene, Canggu is fast becoming a second powerhouse for yoga practitioners on the island.
Ubuntu Bali Eco Yoga Retreat is for anyone with an interest in yoga and for general holidaymakers too, and it is in a nice spot in the rice fields.
So, our team went out to find out who would get the most out of a stay in this resort, and this is what they learned.

This retreat was one of our favourite places in Canggu.
Cleanliness and Maintenance

We felt that mainly the cleaning team did an excellent job, and while there were little spots of dust that had been neglected, they were few and far between.
The maintenance team also does a good job in more challenging circumstances, and there are a few bits and pieces showing noticeable signs of wear and tear on the grounds.
Sleep Quality

We felt that for a 3-star hotel, the rooms were excellent for sleeping. They are big enough, have decent air flow and comfortable beds with high-quality linens, mattresses and pillows.
The retreat is out in the rice fields, so there’s not much noise to keep you awake, and the light sealing on the rooms is good enough to ensure a good night’s rest.
Staff Attitude And Service Culture

We felt that Ubuntu Bali Eco Yoga Retreat’s staff were a credit to the business and they make everyone feel welcome and at home, and can deal with issues as they arise.
They are also very knowledgeable about the retreat’s core offerings, and if you have any questions, they’ll make sure you get an informed response.
Check-in/Check-out Experience

The check-in process is more than acceptable, and you won’t be hanging around too long filling in forms before you’re in your room and getting ready to stretch.
Check-out is also decent, and we found that we were happy enough with getting out and getting on our way when we were ready to go.
Bathroom Quality & Functionality

The bathrooms are not the best we’ve ever seen, but they serve their purpose, and you won’t have any issues getting cleaned up.
The toiletries provided are OK (though limited), and the towels are nice enough. Overall, we wouldn’t come back just for these bathrooms, but we don’t regret using them.
Value For Money

We feel that if you’re not interested in the yoga side of things, this resort isn’t great value for money, but if you’re all about the yoga, it’s exceptional value.
So, that leaves with an average score on value for money, but don’t forget that it’s quite expensive for a 3-star hotel; it’s the yoga that brings the bang for buck.
Food And Beverage Execution

The food here is OK. It’s made with decent ingredients and with care and attention to detail, and it’s tasty enough. But it’s also eminently forgettable.
We find that Bali has so many excellent dining options, and this resort can’t really compete with the best of them.
Location & Immediate Surroundings

Canggu is one of the island’s most popular beach towns, and there’s no doubt that there are plenty of things outside of the resort to enjoy. It’s also a nice, safe place.
If you’re here for the yoga, there are plenty of other yoga schools and yoga shalas to enjoy, and if not, there are beach clubs, shops, restaurants, bars, beaches, surfing, etc. instead.
Facilities & Amenities Vs Promise

On this, we have to note that the facilities promised were promised to be focused on the yoga that this retreat is focused on.
So, while we thought that these facilities were exceptional, we have to note that, once again, if yoga’s not your bag, you may not get the same sort of mileage out of them.
Overall “Personality”

This is a nice hotel in a nice spot, and for us, it’s got not much beyond that to help it stand out in our minds.
We suspect that your memories of this place will be more in the friends you make while doing yoga than of the resort itself.
Summary: Our Overview Of Ubuntu Bali Eco Yoga Retreat

Ubuntu Bali Eco Yoga Retreat is a great choice of hotel for someone looking for a yoga-focused break in Canggu.
For everyone else, it’s OK, and we’d suggest you can probably get better value elsewhere if you don’t want to do yoga. But when the word “yoga” is in the resort name, you could probably work that out for yourself anyway.
Grading: Very Good/Happy to Return

FAQs
Is Ubuntu Bali Eco Yoga Retreat Family Friendly?
Sort of, while children are welcome to stay with their parents at Ubuntu Bali Eco Yoga Retreat, there is a hard limit of 2 people to any room, which is likely to make it hard for younger families, as there are no connecting room options.
There are also no child-specific facilities or kids’ club, kids’ menus or babysitting services available here.
Overall, if you have older children and they want to learn yoga, this might be a good place to stay, otherwise we think there are better family-friendly options in Canggu.
